A place to start. A place to grow!

The number of Construction Management jobs throughout Cedar Rapids and Eastern Iowa continues to grow. A construction manager’s roles and jobs can change depending on the company, however the basic processes will remain the same. Construction Managers help obtain new projects, determine project stages, oversee issues that may arise from the construction process, and document the construction activity. The construction manager is on board with the project from the start to the finish and takes a deep rooted ownership of their project and their team.

The commercial building industry needs men and women interested and skilled in so many areas as part of the building team:

  • Carpenters
  • Painters
  • Bricklayers
  • Plumbers and pipe fitters
  • Iron workers
  • Electricians
  • Concrete finishers
  • Crane operators
  • Welders
  • Drillers

Construction, new and refurbishment needs include:

  • Designers
  • Architects
  • Computer specialists
  • Surveyors
  • Estimators
  • Engineers
  • Project managers

People who enter the industry aren’t necessarily pigeonholed into one trade. If you’re looking for the opportunity to learn a new trade or skill, start by connecting with your local community college. The Construction Management program offered by Kirkwood Community College teaches entry-level skills including hands-on laboratory and field experiences, and exposure to all facets of the industry.
